Beds Designed for the Light, Soil, and House You Have
Jon starts every bed with the light: where the afternoon sun hits and which corners stay shaded. He also checks where water sits after a rain, then picks plants that fit those conditions and stay in scale with the house as they grow. A shrub that looks right at planting can swallow a window in five years, so he spaces each plant for its full size.
We design and plant beds on their own, and we plan them into hardscape projects. A new patio or retaining wall looks like part of the yard once plantings soften its edges.

Find the Right Bed for Your Yard
Foundation Beds
The plantings along the front and sides of the house. Layered from taller shrubs in back to low perennials in front, with enough room between the plants and the siding for air to move and water to drain away from the foundation.
Beds Around Patios and Walls
Plantings that frame a patio or line a retaining wall, at the base or spilling over the top. These beds tie new stonework into the rest of the yard and give a seating area some enclosure.
Island Beds
Freestanding beds set out in the lawn, often around a tree or at a bend in the property line. They break up a wide stretch of grass and give the eye somewhere to land from the back windows.
Bed Renovations
For beds that have outgrown the house or lost their shape. We pull the overgrown and struggling plants and divide the healthy ones to replant. Then we rework the soil and lay the bed out to fit the house as it is today.
Stone and Steel Edging
The border between bed and lawn. Steel edging holds a thin, crisp line and bends to follow a curve. Stone edging in natural stone or pavers can match a nearby patio and gives the mower a hard surface to ride along.
Mulch and Decorative Rock
The ground cover that finishes the bed. Mulch breaks down and feeds the soil over time. Rock stays put for years and works well near downspouts and foundations, or in beds with only a few plants.

We Prep the Soil and Grade Before We Plant
Most struggling beds trace back to the ground under them: compacted soil that roots can't push through, or a bed that slopes toward the house and holds water against the foundation. We loosen and amend the soil before anything goes in, and we shape the bed so water moves away from the house.
We Use One Designer from Beginning to End
Jon designs the beds and stays on the project through planting with Isaac and Daniel. You're not handed from a salesperson to a crew that never saw the plan. Jon is on site when the plants are placed, before anything goes in the ground.
We Make It Easy to Build in Phases
Not every yard gets finished in one season. We design the whole space, then sequence it so beds go in around a patio or wall at the right point in the build, and nothing gets dug up later.

269-274-3947How much does a landscape bed cost? +
Bed size, plant count, the size of each plant at planting, edging material, and how much has to come out first all move the number. We price landscape beds with a custom quote after the consultation, because plant selection changes the total more than square footage does.
Mulch or decorative rock? +
Mulch holds moisture and keeps roots cool. It also breaks down into the soil, so it needs a fresh layer every year or two. Rock lasts for years and stays put in wind and heavy rain, so it works well near downspouts and along foundations. Many beds use both.
Steel or stone edging? +
Steel edging gives a thin, clean line and follows tight curves. Stone edging is wider, can match your patio, and doubles as a mowing strip. We recommend one at the consultation based on the shape of the bed and what sits next to it.
When is the best time to plant in Michigan? +
Spring and early fall. Fall planting gives roots several weeks in warm soil before the ground freezes, and plants go into their first summer already settled. Midsummer planting works, but you'll be watering more often.
Can you save any of my existing plants? +
Often, yes. Healthy perennials can be divided and replanted, and some shrubs can be pruned back or moved. We walk the bed with you at the consultation and mark what stays.
How long until the bed fills in? +
Shrubs and perennials usually take two to three seasons to reach their full look. The first year, plants put energy into roots. By the third summer, the gaps you see at planting have closed.
